Lettuce Make Some Dishes
My sons wanted to grow lettuce this year, so we did. It grew well, and it grew fast. Earlier this week, we harvested lettuce and spinach that had not bolted.
We decided that we would make salad with the first harvest. As we looked around the garden, we saw our chives, thyme, and sage were blooming. We love to add edible flowers to our meals, so we also harvested some chive blooms also.
The salad we made was delicious. We added some honey roasted almonds and balsamic vinaigrette.
Our next harvest was small. We harvested enough lettuce leaves for some hamburgers. Onion is a great flavor for burgers. We also cut a few more chive blossoms as toppings for the burgers. We did not have any burger buns, so we grabbed some slices of bread and had tasty sandwiches.
Lettuce is expensive to buy at the grocery store especially when you are buying organic. You could spend up to $5.00 for a package. Instead, we spent a couple of bucks for a package of seeds, and we have lots of lettuce to eat. This is why we garden and why we hope you will grow your own food too.
Remember, anyone can be a gardener. You just need to get ready, get set, and grow!
