Kale Smoothies

A few years after my sons were born, I started making smoothies at home. It was one action I took to return to my pre-pregnancy weight. I experimented with different combinations of fruits and vegetables. My favorite combination is any fruit with some kale added.

A few days ago, I mentioned how I should start making smoothies again. I asked my dad for a new blender for Christmas. Once my old blender bit the dust, I stopped making them. My dad got me a Ninja blender. It's excellent. It is ten times more efficient than the cheap early marriage blender I had. You know what I'm talking about. Those appliances you get as newlyweds that aren't really that great.

My sons overheard my comment. One said, "Why have you never made us a smoothie before?" That was a good question although I did not appreciate the tone of his voice. I decided to make some for everyone, minus Mr. Barnes. My husband was not interested that day ... or any day, but that's another story for another time.

In the picture above, Gardener Jerry and Gardener James are trying their first smoothie made by yours truly! I didn't write down the measurements, but I can share the ingredients: frozen strawberries, kale from our garden, and pineapple flavored coconut water. They both enjoyed the smoothies, but Gardener Jerry enjoyed them the most. He had three cups. He has also requested that I make more tomorrow, so we will. He asked if could he make it by himself, and I said no.

Just because you can use the toaster solo, doesn't mean I'm ready to turn you loose and let you use the blender alone. That's a recipe for disaster.
