It's Summertime!

We have officially sailed into summer! I am enjoying my summer vacation. We are having our basement remodeled right now, so we won't be traveling. I'm okay with that. 2020 has been an eventful year for us all. Even though this pandemic has kept us all home since March 13, 2020, I don't mind spending my vacation at home. It gives me more time to work on my garden.

We have eaten a lot of salad. It has been a mix of kale, lettuce, radishes, and mint leaves. Although it has only been summer for a few days, we have experienced quite a few hot and humid days as spring came to close. To cool down, we have continued to make smoothies using some kale.

The lettuce even came in handy for our hamburgers.

We are spending the rest of the summer building out the rest of our garden and troubleshooting issues. Both of the sage plants we transplanted died. They stayed alive for the rest of 2019 but died this year. We discovered the pots weren't draining properly which killed the sage. I tipped the pots on the side and drilled holes in the bottom. Water came out everywhere.

I had to buy a new sage plant. I felt so sad. I had those two sage plants for about five years. Luckily, the oregano and thyme, which are sharing a pot, are still alive. We also transplanted these plants for our previous house. You win some; you lose some. I'm hoping to have a bigger winning streak than losing streak. Let's get some mint, make some mojitos, and drink to that!

Remember, anyone can be a gardener. You just need to get ready, get set, and grow!
